Job Description

You will be responsible for overseeing and directing the safe provision of all activities and associated training relating to children, young people and Adults at Risk to meet Club safeguarding objectives. You will provide leadership and guidance on all safeguarding matters and relevant legislation, along with implementing safeguarding awareness and best practice across the Club, Academy and Community Trust, to be the Club’s subject matter expert on all safeguarding requirements.

Your responsibilities will be to:
1. Implement and embed all safeguarding and welfare policies across the Club, and to ensure they are regularly updated, reviewed, cascaded throughout the Club, fit for purpose, and comply with all relevant legislation.
2. Record, report and refer any allegations of a safeguarding nature to the appropriate statutory agencies and football authorities and deal with any complaints of poor practice issues reported.
3. Actively work to prevent poor practice, abuse or discrimination from occurring within the Club.
4. Own delivery and implementation of safeguarding training for all staff either internally or via external providers, maintaining correct training levels, and keep the Single Central Record updated.
5. Support line managers, Education officers and coaching staff to ensure all operational and academic practice is inclusive and sensitive to individual needs.
6. Work with the HR department to ensure all new starters undergo correct checks and inductions required to comply with the Safer Recruitment Policy.
7. Lead on ensuring that the Club meets all requirements on Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, and work with internal Heads of Departments to ensure effective application and cover, including renewals of checks. You will work closely with DSO leads on Matchdays, in the Academy and at the Community Trust.
8. Produce accurate case reports on safeguarding for the Club for internal recording purposes.
9. Attend meetings and continued professional development (CPD) events as required, including necessary Safeguarding Workshop and training each season.

You will:
• Have demonstrable experience of working in a similar role with children
• Hold relevant certificates, including FA Safeguarding Children Workshop certificate and FA Welfare Officer Workshop certificate
• Be familiar with all aspects of relevant safeguarding rules and regulations and applying them to a diverse workplace.
• Have sound organisational skills, be able to prioritise and manage own workload.
• Be discreet, tactful, and able to deal with highly confidential and sensitive material with absolute discretion
• Communicate well on all levels, able to deliver effective training to diverse groups of individuals
• Work well under pressure and has flexibility to deal with issues out of hours and at short notice.

Postholders will be asked about any previous convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings that are not “protected” as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013).
