Middlesbrough Football Club (MFC), founded in 1876, are an English Premier League club with a rich history of developing young players who have gone on to play at First Team level.
The Role
To lead and represent the coaching department in all aspects of the Academy Performance Plan
To manage and monitor the implementation and development of the coaching programme i.e. coaching curriculum, coaching philosophy and playing philosophy
To ensure the delivery of an elite player and coach coaching programme, adhering to all the requirements of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP)
To develop and deliver a Middlesbrough Football Club bespoke Coaching Competency Framework
To work as an integral member of the Academy Management Team and support the development and implementation of the Academy Performance Plan in conjunction with the Academy Manager
To be part of the Club Technical Board, driving the development and implementation of the Academy playing philosophy across all phases
Structure and chair coach meetings with all coaches in conjunction with the Academy Manager
Monitoring of the coaching process and methodology across all phases within the Academy to ensure the highest standards are maintained in line with the Academy Performance Plan
Implementation and monitoring of the Academy’s Coach Competency Framework with all coaching staff and the development of Individual Coach Development Action Plans
Delivery of individual coach mentoring and support for all coaches alongside the FA Coach Developer
Develop and deliver an innovative in-house CPD program for all coaching staff
Supporting the Lead Phase Coaches to ensure all PMA data is up to date
Research current methodologies in coaching/teaching, player development, and industry best practice to enhance our elite Academy
Attend all FA/Premier League events alongside the Academy Manager as directed
Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities
Critical experience
Significant experience of working at a senior level within an elite sporting environment, preferably in player development
Experience of managing at a strategic level
Leading and developing a high performance team with a significant amount of mentoring and coaching
Desirable experience
Experience as a Professional Footballer/Athlete
Football coaching role, preferably in an Academy/Youth environment
Sports science appreciation
Performance analysis appreciation
Senior educational role
Essential qualifications
Qualification in education or similar field e.g. PCGE
Coach/Mentoring Qualification
Desirable qualifications
Level 4 UEFA A Licence
FA Advanced Youth Award
Coach Education Qualification
Masters level degree in a relevant field
Sport Science degree
Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities
Show commitment and a passion for developing people
Be computer literate and able to work with a variety of systems and be conversant with the demands of quality performance measurement
Be flexible and prepared to work to the needs of an operation that places a high demand on time
Have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively at all levels
Be able to work well under pressure
Is organised and works in a methodical manner

Critical Success Factors & Key Challenges
Maintaining Category One status
Developing and leading the coaching department
Developing the Coach Competency Framework and Individual Coach Development Action Plans of the coaching staff
Contribute to the continual updating and improvement of the APP
Establish a progressive Coaching and Playing Philosophy along with the Academy Manager
Demonstrate a commitment to the participation and eventual completion of the Premier League’s
Elite Head of Coaching Award (EHOC)
