Job Description

Key Purpose of Role

To support MCC in communicating and promoting the activities of MCC and Lord’s Cricket Ground to local, national and international media; to oversee internal communications to MCC employees; and to manage the communication of key MCC strategic projects.

To work with the Assistant Secretary (Membership & Operations) to provide communications support for the community development programme and ensure all communication to Members is co-ordinated and in-sync with the broad communications strategy.

To work with the Head of Marketing to ensure all digital communication is co-ordinated, of high quality and in line with the communications strategy.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities

 Supervising the management of, and having responsibility for, the output of the Media & Communications Department;
 Develop and implement an internal and external MCC communication strategy;
 Develop a crisis communications plan for MCC;
 Promote MCC’s cricket related activities to media and across all digital platforms;
 Promote MCC’s non cricket-playing activities to relevant media, with particular emphasis placed on the Community, Meetings & Events and Arts & Library Departments;
 Supervise the management of the J.P. Morgan Media Centre for all match days at Lord’s;
 Build strong relationships with key media contacts, including with broadcasters and the Cricket Writers’ Club; set up and oversee interviews with key MCC spokespeople, including the provision of briefing notes;
 Work with the executive team at Middlesex CCC to promote their fixtures at Lord’s and their support for Lord’s Community initiatives;
 Promote the work of the MCC World Cricket committee, including writing statements from each meeting, running press conferences and arranging interviews to maximise publicity;
 Working with the MCC Foundation, promote the activities of the Club’s charitable arm;
 Ensure consistency of Club communications by ensuring high-quality cross-departmental proofreading support of written content for internal and external publications;
 Oversee the communication of key MCC strategic projects both internally and externally;
 Manage the relationship of key communications stakeholders working in the game, including but not limited to personnel from ICC, ECB and the first-class counties;
 Attendance at Executive Management Board, MCC Committee, World Cricket committee and Cricket committee meetings; and
 Write and distribute ad hoc press releases, as directed by the Chief Executive & Secretary, ensuring that they are written to a high standard of content and accuracy. In addition, respond to ad hoc press enquiries in a timely manner, ensuring continuity and accuracy of MCC’s agreed message/stance.

Variations of job relating to Major Matches

 Ensure effective crisis communications support as and when required;
 Ensure the provision of efficient logistical support for ECB’s Media representatives;
 Attending close of play and post-match press conferences if required to do so;
 Attend all Major Matches with extended hours as appropriate, including weekends; and
 Any other duties as required whether in the Department or elsewhere around the Ground.

Person Specifications, Skills & Qualifications

 At least ten years’ relevant PR and media experience;
 Educated to degree level or equivalent;
 Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills;
 Proven leadership and budget management experience;
 Proven crisis communications experience;
 Good knowledge of and creative approach to producing content for digital media;
 Able to work using own initiative, independently and as part of a team;
 Able to deal confidently with individuals at all levels of the organisation;
 Capable of planning and prioritising work to tight deadlines;
 Excellent organisational and administrative skills;
 Strong attention to detail;
 Knowledge of, and an interest in, cricket and the landscape of worldwide cricket media;
 Knowledge of, and an interest in, community development and charity work;
 Understanding and working knowledge of the use of digital communications;
 Excellent IT skills; and
 Willingness to work long hours on occasion, in addition to some weekend working in the busy cricket season.
